Most healthcare providers don't have the time to thoroughly investigate a complex spine problem. Our process is different. Instead of simply identifying where it hurts, we work to determine:
Imagine taking your car to a mechanic because the check engine light came on.
After a few minutes, the mechanic walks out and says: "Good news. The light is off." You ask: "What caused it" And they reply: "We didn't check." Most people would never accept that. Yet this happens every day with back pain. The symptom improves temporarily. The underlying cause remains unchanged. Weeks later, the pain returns. Our goal isn't simply to calm symptoms. Our goal is to determine what keeps turning the warning light on.
Why We Spend 3 Hours Evaluating Your Spine
Most evaluations focus on identifying the painful structure.
Our evaluation focuses on identifying the factors driving the pain.
During your evaluation we work to identify:
The goal isn't simply to identify what hurts
The goal is to understand why it hurts
STEP #3 - GET RID OF THE PAIN & KEEP IT FROM COMING BACK
This is when the big transformations occur. We develop a personalized plan that allows you to…
…Get back to exercising without fear of your pain coming back
…Be able to play with your kids, get back to your workouts, etc.
…Get back to your pre-injury lifestyle you love
…step outside to go walk/hike without having to worry about whether or not you can handle the distance/time
Our best clients are those who are motivated and ready to win back their active lifestyle. (Even if they feel stuck right now!)
Want to know more about our availability and costs before making any commitment to coming in?
You don’t have to sacrifice the activities you love over problems that can be fixed.
Sincerely,
Tyler
"I can't say enough good things about Dr. Shelton. I've been to all the doctors for back pain - multiple neurologists, my chiropractor, my primary care doctor, multiple physical therapists - to treat a bulging disc in my L5/S1 that I started to have serious problems with last year. It put me out of commission, and for a time I couldn't sit or walk or almost move without severe pain. And while I was prescribed medicines and stretches from the other doctors, a few things set Dr. Shelton apart - first, he's certified in the McGill Method, which should be more common than what it is. This methodology treats back pain at the root cause rather than masking symptoms with temporary methods, exercises, or medications. I discovered Dr. Shelton through reading the book Back Mechanic by Stuart McGill.
And second, Dr. Shelton is unique in how he approaches patients. He spends three hours with you at your first appointment. He actually listens. His treatment is unique to the patient, and because he has seen so many patients with back issues, he has a strong understanding of what's going on. There's no bells and whistles - just an honest, straightforward approach with help that actually works when you put in the time and follow the treatment plan he sets up for you.
I improved significantly after seeing Dr. Shelton. I'd recommend him to anyone looking for relief for back pain. I'm grateful to have found him!"

"When I first started having horrible sciatic issues I began research on you tube and any social media I could access. It is here that I watched a video of Jillian Michael's and Dr Stuart McGill ( world renowned back pain specialist). Dr. McGill healed Jillian with his method of practice which he has been perfecting for decades. When he retired he trained many clinicians to practice his method and lucky for me Tyler Shelton was one of them. I was in so much pain at times I could only lay down. I've been active my entire life and depression began to set in. I scheduled a visit with Tyler which lasted 4 hrs. The reason for this is because he watched and learned from my every move. It is not a one size fits all process and it's also not an overnight cure. I worked on the exercises he gave me and learned alot about spine hygiene and what I was doing wrong. I won't lie..i had my ups and downs but I stuck with it and am now pain free. I'm back to doing whatever I want..kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, camping, even a little running and 2 weeks ago I participated in my first Spartan race. I'm 65 years old by the way. There's no doubt in my mind that Tyler saved my life. He is very responsive to texts and phone calls and that's one of the things I love about him. He truly cares about his patients and takes his job very seriously. I highly recommend Tyler to anyone needing an outstanding physical therapist."

"Tyler exemplifies the best in what health care can and should look like. His treatment and training is based in actual science, experience, and a nuanced understanding of anatomy, spinal mechanics, and movement. No pseudoscience. No BS. Tyler is an excellent listener and brings great empathy to his patients. He is incredibly responsive and is on point with follow up, When I lucked my way in to finding him, I was in significant pain with a host of disc and sciatic nerve issues. My individual situation was both complicated and moderately severe with a lot of underlying imbalances and deficits dating back to a couple of decades old knee surgeries. It was a dark time for me and Tyler gave me hope and clarity. I just wrapped up my final (for now) training session and am stronger, more resilient, and more mobile than I have been in years. If you are an athlete, weight lifter, or CrossFitter struggling with nagging pain, go see Tyler. If you have a herniated disc and want to avoid surgery (and address any underlying root causes) go see Tyler. If you have back pain or sciatica, do yourself a favor and GO SEE TYLER. You will save yourself a lot of time and hassle, get some answers, and get a plan and a path to being pain free and getting stronger."- John
"I began seeing Tyler Shelton at Shelton Movement in April 2025 after years of searching for answers and treatment options for my back condition. Neurosurgeons believe I was born with structural spinal issues that progressively affected my entire body after years of pushing through severe pain without the right treatment approach.
After my MRI results, I explored many alternative methods, including Foundation Training and other therapies. While some helped temporarily, I eventually suffered a major spinal nerve pain episode that left me floor-ridden for months with debilitating pain and very little hope for improvement.
Thankfully, a doctor familiar with Dr. Stuart McGill’s teachings introduced me to Tyler Shelton. His knowledge of spinal rehabilitation, movement mechanics, and back injury recovery immediately stood out.
I also come from an athletic background. I played college basketball on a full scholarship and later played professionally in and out of the United States. I understand the physical demands of training, recovery, and competition. Over the years, I worked with trainers and doctors of all kinds as my body slowly began breaking down with what seemed like mysterious hip and knee pain. At no point during those years was the underlying spinal disc damage and nerve compression truly addressed.
That’s why I believe it’s critical to find the right approach when dealing with back problems hidden beneath the surface. Back pain is tricky. It disguises itself, compensates through the body, and can quietly steal your quality of life over time. The pain stemming from spinal issues is mentally and physically exhausting. It’s cruel, frustrating, and unfair. I’ve lived that reality for over 25 years.
Now, one year later in April 2026, I’ve hit milestones in my healing and mobility that once felt impossible. Tyler has helped me rebuild movement patterns, strength, and confidence in my body step by step. Every session builds on the last, and for the first time in a long time, I genuinely feel like I’m moving forward instead of declining.
One thing Tyler told me early on was, “I want you to feel pain free.” In just one year, he has given me more moments of feeling pain free than I ever believed were possible for me again.
I’m extremely thankful for his guidance, patience, and knowledge throughout this process. I don’t even know where my body will be by next April, but I do know it will be stronger."

"After dealing with severe low back pain for a year, and seeing every healthcare professional under the sun to try and fix it, a friend told me about Tyler and I'm SO grateful she did. He truly changed my life in how he approaches physical therapy and movement. I have been seeing him consistently since October 2023, and had my last appointment this week. I've been pain free for a few months now, and am able to care for my kids, work, and do day to day life without issue thanks to Tyler's care and expertise. Can't express my gratitude for him, and if you're having pain, make an appointment with him! So worth the investment. Thanks again, Tyler!!" ⭐️
